Caribou Pass bike-hike expedition.
This is an 8-day biking-hiking trip that explores the McKenzie and Selwyn Mountains from McMillan Pass to Caribou Pass, along the Canol Heritage trail. This trip offers stunning scenery and excellent hiking opportunities in alpine meadows along the way, as well as the chance to see many different birds and mammals. We will look after your personal gear, to lighten your load and make the bike ride more comfortable. You will be able to enjoy the comforts of Dechenla lodge enroute as well as on your return trip. At Caribou Pass we have an outpost ‘kitchen’ cabin and gazebo, and you will stay in wall tents. You will be looked after with the same attention to comfort and good food that we offer at Dechenla Lodge.

Difficulty: Mountain biking is moderately strenuous, with occasional creek crossings and some steady inclines, but on a good road-bed. Hiking is typically easy to moderate, adjusted to the fitness level of the group.

Cost: Price per person is $1650, plus the Canadian Governments Goods & Services Tax of 5% ($82.50), plus air charter cost from Whitehorse to MacPass return of $900. Total cost then is $2,632 for 8 days, and includes transportation costs, guide services, meals & accommodation, and a complimentary T-shirt. We can provide you with a mountain bike, or we can arrange for you to bring your own. Price does not include air and ground transport from your point of departure to Whitehorse, or your hotel accommodation, meals and ground transportation while in Whitehorse.

Discounts: Group and family discounts are available on request. For those wishing to arrange their own travel to the airstrip near MacPass, the price is discounted by $900.

Dechenla Cultural Awareness and Environmental Youth Program
The incredible diversity of the area, the prevalence of unique landforms, and its pristine nature, makes this area a natural classroom. The mere fact that 4 major biomes (tundra, alpine, sub-alpine, boreal forest) come together, linked by the Canol Heritage Trail, opens up many possibilities to learn. Also, the remoteness and serenity of this area, far away from the distractions of urban life, provide the right ambience to promote self-awareness and healing. Added to this is the rich history of the aboriginal people of the area. This will be the third consecutive summer that we will be running this 2-3 week youth program. This program brings First Nation youth from different parts of the Yukon and Northwest Territories together to learn both traditional cultural skills and knowledge, and science-based environmental skills. The youth are accompanied by both their elders and other teachers working in various environmental fields.
